UNDERSTANDING PUBLIC HEALTH PREPAREDNESS STRATEGY AND SURGE RESPONSE CAPACITY

Goal 8 of the Public Health-Seattle & King County mission reads 'Anticipate and respond to the public health consequences of local emergencies'. As a result, the Department's Preparedness Section was created within the Office of the Director to coordinate Department-wide planning and activation. A Public Health Preparedness Strategy was developed to define the department's surge capacity requirements, including core capability components and response team requirements. The starting point for this strategy was to evaluate day to day functions against a variety of preparedness planning factors.
